Best tips to conceive

I see many patients struggling with infertility and they all have different stories to tell about their infertility journey. Today the lifestyle we live is the biggest reason that affects thousands and lakhs of couples to become infertile. Sometimes it literally broke my heart when I listened tot heir stories but being and Infertility specialist, it is indeed my duty to give my best advise to all the couples across the globe to live healthy and give them the best tips to follow for their fertility.

Here are certain tips that you need to keep in mind and follow religiously to conceive:

1. First of all your age matters a lot:

For a woman the best reproductive years are in her 20s. When a woman reaches her thirties, her fertility will gradually decline, particularly after the age of 35. In your early 30’s you only have a 20% chance of getting pregnant. So, plan early.

2. Lifestyle choices:

How you live is the another important factor to be considered. If you are prone to take alcohol, smoking, drugs or taking medications such as painkillers and anti-inflammatories, it will definitely hamper your chances of getting pregnant on your own and then you need to seek a fertility expert. Abstain from such choices.

3. Contraceptive pills:

Many women nowadays have been on the pill since their teens, having sex before marriage or do not want to start family early is also one factor to be

Problems getting pregnant second time?

Lot of couples plan their extended family when they plan their second baby. But problem occurs when they came to know that they are suffering from secondary infertility which means inability to get pregnant after the birth of your first biological child. This kind of state can be stressful and upsetting and also difficult to process, especially if the first pregnancy went well.

Now, let us consider few facts which lead you to secondary infertility:

1. Time and Gap between the ages:

We cannot say that somebody is suffering from secondary infertility for particular amount of time. But if a couple has been trying unsuccessfully for at least one year or so then I would strongly recommend that they should pay a visit to fertility expert who will be able to investigate their situation and help them get to the bottom of what might be wrong. Age also matters if you are seeking to get pregnant again with second baby after the certain age say above 35 or so then you might feel difficulty in doing that.

And please don’t ever think that you are alone in this battle there are many couples across the globe struggling with secondary infertility and this can be especially difficult when friends become pregnant with their second child.

Keep your Mobile phones out of your pocket

We are living in the era of high end smart phones. There is a considerable amount of time that people spend on their phones instead of doing anything else. But many people does not know that men who carry their mobile phone in their pocket could be involuntarily destroying their sperm.

Yes, you heard it right keeping mobile phones in your trouser’s or jeans pocket could hamper your fertility especially in men. There is also a study done in Israel where the researchers has found that almost half of the men (47%) who kept their phones in their front trouser pocket had low sperm levels, compared to 11% of the general population. The study also revealed that men who chatted on the phone for more than an hour each day were twice as likely to have low sperm quality as those who spoke on their mobile for less than one hour per day.

Not only keeping the mobile phones in pants but speaking on the phone while charging is also linked to lower sperm counts. If your sperm levels are

Air Pollution affecting fertility

Delhi’s air these days is a matter of concern for each and everybody. Air pollution has garnered considerable interest from past few weeks. From children to young adults to elderly people all have come under the deadliest and this poisonous trap of Air pollution. There are lot of heavy particles presented in the air such as carbon monoxide, sulphur dioxide, manganese dioxide, zinc oxide, nitrates etc. which directly affects our hormones and triggers fertility issues.

Every time after Diwali air quality suffers badly. These days it is reported that after Diwali, air quality commenced with a recorded PM 2.5 as beyond scale value of 500 µg/m3 and increased to 600 and 700 µg/m3 in the later days, much higher than the Central Pollution Control Board norms of 250 µg/m3. This is such a worst ratio ever.

Actually everyone is exposed to some air pollution, be it indoor or outdoor; it has an important effect across the population as a whole. These days’ chemical particles in the air are enough to make fertile and fetal developmental problems. Not only has this but air pollution also caused reduction in testosterone or oestrogen levels that may lead to

Expectant Mothers take care this Diwali

The festival of light - Diwali is round the corner, you must be busy preparing for it. But you must be careful and should adopts the preventive measures and however if you are an expecting mum it is all the way very much important to take extra preventive measures.

There are certain tips you must keep in mind so to ensure the health and safety of you and your unborn baby inside your womb. For pregnant woman it is very significant to know that what you inhale goes into your blood stream and affects the fetus. As we all know that the smoke emitted by firecrackers is not exactly what you need to inhale. From the 6th to 12th week, your baby’s organs are formed. So, it is better to avoid the pollutants caused by firecrackers.

Following are the few tips that a pregnant mother must adopt before begin the festivities:

1. First of all a pregnant mother should dress comfortably and wear flat footwear. It would be better to choose for the cotton clothes as synthetics have the tendency of catching fire easily.

2. Loud noises could get extremely disturbing and troubling for the mother as well as for the unborn child so it should be avoided.

3. Do not lift or carry any sort of heavy object.

4. Avoid lighting fireworks that require running to a safer distance prior to explosion like Anar, Rocket or Chakri. Go easy with the hand-held sparklers.

5. You can possibly try to celebrate Eco friendly Diwali with diyas, and lanterns rather than the fireworks and crackers.

6. While touching the feet of elders, bend the knees down rather than the back. And if your bump is large, we are sure elders won't mind if you simply greet with folded hands.

7. The loud noises of crackers can be quite disturbing for both the mother and your unborn child, so it’s best to stay indoors and you can also put

Treating PCOS

Deccan Herald

PCOS – Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome as we all know is a disorder that affects 1 in 10 women and over 50% do not know that they have it unless and until they go for a checkup. It is the most common hormonal imbalance disorder which causes irregular menstrual cycle in women, obesity, unwanted hair growth and infertility. It mostly affects women of reproductive age from puberty to menopause i.e. 12-45 years old.

Every second patient, I treat in Delhi has PCOS. In PCOS patients there are sufficient number of eggs which helps in conceiving but PCOS patients do not have that capacity where their eggs develop itself for pregnancy. In a research by USA, few years ago it was found out that via laparoscopy or key-hole surgery the ovaries are punctured with a small needle carrying an electric current or using laser to voluntarily breech the ovarian capsule. This surgery can lower male hormone levels and help with ovulation. But it indeed needs lot of alertness by the doctors as there are various risks are associated with it like infections from the incision, bleeding from the incision, pain after the procedure etc.

But the biggest risk associated with the ovarian drilling surgery is that it could destroy too much of the ovary and causes your egg supply to diminish at a young age, sending you into early menopause.

I can recall a case of my patient Rashmi Khanna(name changed on request), a management professional married at the age of 28 has planned to conceive after 2 years of her marriage. Her world seems to have scattered when she got to know that she is suffering from infertility caused by PCOS. She went for an ovarian drilling procedure which causes
