Amenorrhea can cause infertility

In today’s time, your lifestyle plays a pivotal role in your fertility; from what you eat to how you live and what you think impacts the fertility in both males and females. In females these conditions can lead to amenorrhea. In literal terms amenorrhea means absence of menstrual cycle which can be due to hormonal imbalances or some medical problems. It occurs in females during the childbearing age who fail to menstruate. Women who missed at least 3 menstrual cycles in a row have amenorrhea.

Absence of periods is a major sign of amenorrhea but the other signs or symptoms along with it are:

  • milky nipple discharge,
  • loss of hair and vision,
  • headache,
  • excess facial hair,
  • pain in pelvic area,
  • sometimes acne
Do see your doctor if you have 3 missed periods in a row or you are 15 year and older and have no periods. Amenorrhea can occur for a number of reasons. Some are normal during the course of a woman's life, while others may be a side effect of medication or a sign of a medical problem.

1. Hormonal Imbalances which includes:

  • Polycystic Ovary syndrome or PCOS where you have multiple cysts characterized by irregular menstrual cycle, overweight and facial hair etc.

Nutrition and fertility – figure out your cravings

This Pandemic has indeed changed everyone’s lifestyle. Now many of us are at home 24/7 people have been asking why they want to eat all the time. The shift from going out and ordering from out whenever we want to be inside home most of the time takes quite an adjustment. As we get to grips with a new routine, working from home or tackling a list of DIY jobs, some people might have noticed that they are eating more.

Sometimes we just keep heading towards the fridge may be boredom or just the novelty of being at home with food within easy reach, there are other physiological reasons we may seek out a quick snack fix. For many of us this time is also stressful as we try to make sense of the situation we are in and what it means for our future.

Food is more than calories. It’s information. The body is a wonderful machine, constantly sending us signs and signals about the information (or nutrients) it needs to function at its best.

In this blog we will see how cravings may be a sign of stress hormone imbalance and how this may also affect your fertility and makes it difficult to conceive naturally

Cravings for sweet things:

When we are stressed our body reacts or fight to run away from the stress. Our adrenal glands produce stress hormones which (among other things) signal that we need a quick

Lifestyle changes could improve fertility

Many a times we have heard it that a small change in lifestyle could improve your chances of conceiving. But it is applicable to both the partners because for getting pregnant you don’t only need a healthy body weight but you need a healthy sperm too. By adopting these simple lifestyle changes, you can ensure you are giving yourself and your partner the best chance of conceiving

As a woman, it is important to make healthy lifestyle choices during pregnancy. But you may be less familiar with lifestyle choices that can improve fertility same as for men; to make your wife pregnant requires healthy sperm, but your sperm may only be as healthy as you are. So, here am sharing few tips that can help you maximize the chances of successful pregnancy by adopting these healthy habits:

  • First of all it is important to maintain a healthy body weight: Both men and women should maintain a healthy body weight when trying to conceive. For women, too much or too little body fat can upset your cycle and interfere with ovulation, so maintaining a healthy BMI of 20-25 is really important. Men with a BMI of over 30 are also likely to have lower fertility than normal. To maintain weight as well

PCOS diagnosis leads to pregnancy

As we all know that every year September is PCOS awareness month that is being considered all over the world. Many people doesn’t even know that they aware suffering from PCOS; such is a case of Mrinalani Bansal(34), a housewife living with PCOS since teenage till her husband Sudhir Bansal recognized her symptoms in an article he was reading by Dr Shobha Gupta about the PCOS is one of the reason for not being able to conceive and how IVF treatment helps in conceiving.

Having periods just once or twice in a year with very less flow had become the normal for Mrinalani though she as living with the two classic symptoms on PCOS that is irregular periods and unwanted hair growth.

Early PCOS diagnosis would have helped

“When I couldn’t get pregnant I felt as though I had failed as a woman,if I had been more aware of my PCOS symptoms I would have got advice sooner than I did.” said Mrinalani.

About 30% of female infertility cases observed today are due to polycystic ovaries. Majority of these cases fall under the age group of 20-30 years. Hence, it becomes very important for young women to be aware of their body and the symptoms

How to cope with infertility during the Covid-19 Crisis?

Infertility is itself a big challenge and to top it covid-19 anxiety is something to which everyone is struggling. It is important to strengthen the support for women and to reduce their fear and anxiety.

We at Mother’s Lap IVF Centre are here to provide all of the support, information and attention you need as you cope with infertility during the COVID-19 crisis.

First step is to take care of your heart, mind, & spirit:

The one thing that lockdown has given us is more time during the week. No more commute, no time dedicated to going to the movies, dining out, or attending favorite public activities and events. Utilize that and nurture your heart, mind, and spirit.

How to do:

  • You can try yoga online while there is no proven link between yoga and increased fertility, a review of multiple studies has shown potential links between women who do yoga during fertility treatments cycles, reduced stress, and improved fertility rates.
  • Take time to prepare nourishing meals. Inflammation is a side-effect of endometriosis and PCOS to just about every other medical or reproductive issue. Focusing on a nourishing anti-inflammatory diet automatically can help keep inflammation at bay, which has inherent reproductive health benefits.
  • Keeping the romance alive! As any one coping with infertility can tell you, it takes a toll on romance and light hearted partnership. Use this time to rekindle romantic and intimate connections with your partner.
While COVID-19 is an unprecedented concern, fertility centers know how to use best-practices and medical protocol to keep our patients safe amidst this pandemic.

There’s no reason to put your fertility journey on pause, Do connect with Mother’s Lap IVF centre to

Can PCOS/PCOD curable in a natural way?

According to a report published by Metropolis healthcare, one in every 5 woman in India is suffering from PCOS. Has Lockdown phase brought weird periods?

Amid the Corona pandemic whole world is struggling and this time our mental health has gone for a toss. During periods women not only have to go through unbearable pain but at this time many changes are also seen in the body. It happens every month at a fixed time but if it is not on time due to any reason or it is too late, women may get upset. It is not necessary that pregnancy is the only reason for missing periods; many a times it happens due to stress also. Due to the corona epidemic, there is a lot of stress in women and it is directly affecting their periods.

Whole grains for fertility

Is there a diet you should follow to promote fertility? A pro-fertility diet consisting of higher intake of supplemental folic acid, vitamin B12, Vitamin D, low pesticide residue produce (pre-washing fruits and vegetables in one part vinegar, 8 part water), whole grains, low fat dairy and seafood rather than other meats was associated with an increased probability of live birth in women having IVF.

The following foods and ingredients were considered whole grains: whole wheat and whole wheat flour, whole oats and whole oat flour, pasta, whole corn meal flour, whole rye and whole rye flour, whole grain barley, quinoa, buckwheat or kuttu atta, brown rice, pearl sago or sabudana,  broken wheat or dalia,  popcorn, amaranth, and jowar etc. Whole grain foods and its components have physiologic properties that support a link between whole grain intake and fertility. Whole grains helps in reducing coronary artery disease, cancer, diabetes and obesity are good for anyone’s diet but they’re even more important for women doing in vitro fertilization(IVF).

According to The study, “Maternal whole grain intake and outcomes of in vitro fertilization, Women who ate the most whole grains had a 53% live birth rate, compared to 35% for women with the lowest whole grain intake. The best whole grain to consume was bran and the main difference that was observed was in the thickness of the uterine lining (endometrium) during IVF. It seems that whole grains, and mainly the bran part, has

Pregnancy and Corona Virus – what you need to do?

Pregnant women have to take care of their baby's health as well. At a time when the problem arising from the corona virus has taken a huge form around the world. As we all know that the virus spreads through respiratory droplets sent into the air when a person who has COVID-19 coughs or sneezes. It may also spread when someone touches a surface infected by a person who has the virus. People need to take special precautions rather than worry about it. Researchers are working quickly to learn more about what the new corona virus as well as its impact on our daily lives and of course on pregnant ladies too. The current, hopeful assessments of the new corona virus are based in large part on a study published online last month in The Lancet of nine pregnant women in their third trimester in Wuhan, China, who had pneumonia caused by COVID-19.None of the women developed severe illness, and all of their babies were born healthy. The risk of passing the infection to the fetus appears to be very low, and there is no evidence of any fetal malformations or effects due to maternal infection with COVID-19.

This is even more important for women who are pregnant because they have full responsibility for the care of their unborn child. A small mistake of pregnant women can have a bad effect on their health as well as their baby's health. That is why you can protect yourself and your baby in the

Planning your pregnancy at the age of 40? Know the tips and tricks

In today’s time women are more career oriented and looks towards financial stability first in their life. And not only women, men are also in no hurry to start a family any time soon; career has taken the front seat; hence given the rise to DINK couples(double income and no kids). As a result more women are getting married around 30-35 years of age or even later. Due to this, the mean age at first pregnancy is also slowly rising, with many women approaching Fertility Clinics for the first time at the age of 40 years for help in conceiving.

Delaying pregnancy sometimes leads to miscarriage or even infertility. With increasing age in females, the ovarian reserve or the number of eggs that a lady has, reduces drastically translating into decreased chances of natural pregnancy. Moreover there is a rapid decline in quality of eggs too due to which the chances of miscarriages also may increase. Research has shown that a 40 year old female seeking fertility has only 25 % chance of pregnancy with own eggs and it decreases to 1.6% at age of 44. If she conceives, the risk of miscarriage is around 25% at 40 years and around 50% at 44 years.

At the age of 40 and above, the incidence of medical problems like Diabetes Mellitus, High Blood Pressure is more. These may get aggravated during the course of a pregnancy. If a lady gets pregnant with her own eggs at the age of 40, the chances of having genetic problems is more. This risk can be reduced by opting for donor eggs as these eggs are of a much younger lady.

What are the Tips and Tricks to get pregnant at the age of 40?

1. Do not wait too long for natural conception: Several studies have shown that the chances of conceiving naturally is as low as 5-10 %the age of 40. This can be attributed to the diminished quality of eggs at this age.

2.Approach a Fertility Consultant for guidance: You should visit a good fertility consultant to understand the challenges

Getting pregnant with PCOS came as surprise

There are many success stories of Mother’s Lap IVF centre where complicated cases gets success and couples found their happiness when a baby is born . Today I am sharing one of those tough cases where Sanchita Arora (name changed) found out at that she was expecting a baby, it was her best birthday gift  she could have hoped for.

Sanchita had been diagnosed with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) at the age of only 16 and was on medication for long and obviously her chances of getting pregnant with PCOS were very weak.

The challenges of getting pregnant with PCOS

PCOS is one of the most common causes of infertility in women and can have a number of symptoms including irregular periods and excess facial hair.

The diagnosis had hit Sanchita hard and she admits that she coped with it by mentally closing off the option of ever having children. Getting pregnant with PCOS is therefore came as a complete surprise, when many years later and with a partner,  she unexpectedly fell pregnant but, just as she was getting used to the idea, she had a miscarriage.

Sanchita lost all hope and then she heard from some of her friends about our centre and came to us. Unfortunately she was unable to fall pregnant naturally. We had made some basic investigations and the tests confirmed that she was not ovulating (producing an egg) regularly.

Women who are unable to conceive due to irregular ovulation are often given fertility drugs to stimulate the ovaries and treat the infertility. Sanchita was as on fertility drugs earlier by her GP, and after no success, we suggested her IVF treatment at Mother’s Lap IVF Centre.

Sacnhita  said: “I remember being incredibly nervous in the build-up to my first visit to Mother’sLap IVF Centre. I’ve never liked injections and was concerned about needlesize. However, I saw the clinic on an open day and I was instantly put at ease. The clinic was comfortable and seemed almost homely certainly not surgical.”

“The nurse and other assisting staff, I saw was so helpful, talking me through the process and even getting me to practice injecting a sponge. It was an incredibly well

Infertility is not just a problem for women

Myth: Infertility is a woman's problem.
Fact: This is the most prevalent of all myths having to do with infertility, and if a couple is unable to have a child, the woman is thought to be "barren." In fact, according to Resolve, a national infertility advocacy organization in the USA, men and women are about equally
responsible when it comes to infertility.  In reality, 40% of infertility is due to female factors, 40% due to male factors and 20% due to both.

Myth: - Ayurvedic medicines are harmless and better for treatment of infertility related problems like low sperm count or poor sperm motility (movement).
Fact: - Ayurvedic medicines cause more harm than good in such cases as mentioned above. People think that they can quickly solve the problem by taking easily and cheaply available ayurvedic medicines but what they don’t realize is that they are actually harming themselves

Everything about Male infertility

Male infertility is the issue in 20 percent of cases of infertile couples. So it’s important for your partner also to be involved in the process and to undergo testing, too. A semen analysis can tell doctors about sperm motility, shape, and concentration, all of which can play a role in fertility. It is important to understand that men undergo fertility problems as well and have a biological clock too, like women. Their biological clock is definitely very different to that of women’s as they undergo deterioration in the fertility levels much later, around their 60s whereas women face it during their early 30s.

There are several contributing factors but it’s often difficult to get to the root of the problem. The Contributing causes for male infertility are:

How to overcome infertility

Many people in India are struggling from infertility and they all have different stories to tell about their
infertility journey. Infertility is a common problem according to the Indian Society of Assisted Reproduction, infertility currently affects about 10 to 14 percent of the Indian population, with higher rates in urban areas where one out of six couples is impacted. It can be caused by a single problem or a number of issues. Often patients don't fully appreciate the extent of the potential causes, especially age that may be linked to them failing to conceive.

Today, the lifestyle which we live is the biggest culprit of being infertile. When diagnosed with infertility it is important to know that fertility problems are common and can vary also. Damage to fallopian tubes (tubal infertility), cervical causes and ovulation disorder are the most common causes of infertility in women but there are many reasons which must be investigated before opting any infertility treatment like semen analysis in males to check their sperm count & sperm motility, Ovarian reserve testing in females as the egg reserve diminishes with age, regularity of menstrual cycle etc. As a infertility specialist, I would advise everyone to go through proper check up and focus on your overall health first before starting a family.
See these fertility facts before opting any treatment:
