Over the
last few years lifestyle and infertility issues has garnered much interest.
Lifestyle
does play a very pivotal role in your fertility. Infertility today is
over used word and in India alone an estimated one in seven couple have
fertility problems and mostly there is no known medical explanation. India has
a population of over 1.2 billion, the number of Indians suffering from
infertility is huge.
Lifestyle
factors are the modifiable habits and ways of life that can greatly influence
overall health and well-being. Lifestyle affects fertility depends on things
you are doing in your life for example the urban populace of our country has an
easy access to high-calorie packaged foods such as burgers, chips and colas
which affects their overall health as they are not taking proper balanced diet.
Moreover, people in cities follow a sedentary lifestyle with little or no
physical activity and a predilection for gizmos such as video games, computers
are to blame for infertility. Let us explore following lifestyle habits that
hamper your motherhood:
Age:
Women are
born with a specific number of eggs, which declines with age. After a certain
age, it becomes difficult for one to plan pregnancy naturally and might require
the help of a fertility expert to get pregnant. The ideal age for pregnancy is
the mid-to-late 20s. If you want to wait, then you can push that limit to 35.
After 35, the chances of a successful pregnancy start declining.
Stress:
Stress today
has become a part of life. There are many factors that contribute to stress
which further causes infertility like Marital disturbance, Job or business
stress, Personal injury or illness,Death of close family member, Late marriages
etc these all stress contributing factors causes infertility.
Obesity or
overweight:
Being
Overweight can severely hamper your chances of a getting pregnant. The reason
for obesity can be anything from eating disorders to depression to lack of
physical activities to hormonal imbalances etc. Weight problem cases are on
increase everywhere, and so are infertility clinics. Almost 10% of couples in
the country get affected by obesity related infertility and are hesitant to
take medical advice.
Zero figure causes
infertility:
Loads of
women are shedding off weight in order to mimic the amazingly thin celebrities
without being aware of the fact that they such dramatic weight loss can be
injurious to their health. If a woman continues to shed weight then she may
perhaps stop ovulating and when the ovulation is concealed by the ovaries, the
woman fails to release an egg every month, thereby reducing the chances of
pregnancy.
Wearing
Skinny jeans
Yes, you
heard it right wearing too tight jeans or trousers hampers your overall health.
It can cut off circulation and cause nerve damage, swelling of the ankles and
feet and fertility problems. Tight pants or skinny jeans do in fact damage the
testicles; even low sperm count and can cause infertility in men. But that’s
not all. Wearing skinny jeans is associated with many negative consequences for
both men and women. It causes infertility problems in men by overheating of the
crotch area which can cause yeast infections and urinary tract infections (UTI)
in women.
Alcohol and
smoking
These two
affects the overall health majorly. According to the American Society for
reproductive medicine, smokers must often attempt twice as many IVF cycles as
compare to a non-smoker in order to achieve pregnancy. On the other hand
alcohol consumption is a serious damage to a healthy life.
Medical
issues
There are
various medical issues like endometriosis, PCOS and tubal blockage that can
reduce one’s chances of conception drastically. PCOS is a major cause of
infertility for urban Indian women. Tubal blockage or fallopian tube
obstruction is again a prime cause of female infertility. Blocked fallopian
tubes are unable to deliver the sperm and ova to the uterus for implantation and
so conception becomes difficult. While most of these conditions can be
rectified with help of a doctor, the sooner you meet a fertility expert, the
better.
