By Dr. Shobha Gupta

Every married woman dreams of having own biological baby but due to fast paced life and sedentary lifestyles these dreams seem to have taken a back seat and people are busy in building their careers.

Many a times we don’t know that these lifestyle issues severely affects our fertility and there by reduces the chances of conceiving naturally. Infertility has spread its wings all over the world. According to ICMR bulletin it is estimated that globally between 60-80 million couples suffer from infertility every year, of which probably between 15- 20 million are in India alone.

The reason behind infertility are many few of them could be PCOS, sedentary lifestyle, eating junk food, depression, problematic womb, consumption of alcohol, smoking, stressful life, uterine problems, fallopian tube blockage, low sperm count, etc. The causes of infertility are present in both the genders. A woman cannot be blamed alone for this.

But thanks to modern technology
In Vitreo Fertilization or IVF technique, a woman can now enjoy motherhood with their own biological child even after crossing their puberty age. However, many do not know about the advanced treatment presented by the medical science

The fertility of a woman starts declining after she crosses 27 and men fertility too starts dropping after 35. The chances of miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy or chromosomal abnormality go up as you come of age in such couples. In such cases IVF support is very high.

About In Vitreo Fertilisation (IVF)

IVF involves retrieval of one or more eggs from the ovaries prior to release. Most IVF clinics usually recommend that the woman takes drugs, which cause the ovaries to mature several eggs in one cycle. This procedure is called controlled ovarian hyperstimulation. It increases the chances of producing several embryos. The eggs are collected or retrieved under anesthesia with the help of ultrasound. After collection, the eggs are mixed with the man’s sperm in a dish and placed in an incubator to be fertilized and so produce one or more embryos. These embryos are then replaced in the woman’s womb 48 hours after retrieval. If one or more embryo implants, a pregnancy begins. A pregnancy rate of 30- 35% per treatment cycle is expected.

IVF using donated eggs, sperm or embryos: IVF treatment in Delhi, India may be available using donated sperm if the male partner is infertile or using donated eggs if, for example, the woman has no eggs or responds poorly to ovarian stimulation. Donation might also be used if one of the couple is at risk of passing on a serious inherited disease.

Due to IVF women around the world have experienced the joy of being mother. Every woman can now enjoy the freedom of motherhood.
